The history of Mary airport begins with its formation in 1968. In the same year, regular flights on the
Ashgabat-Mary-Ashgabat route began on aircraft of the following types: LI-2, IL-14, IL-18.
One of the main aircraft that was used at the airport was the an-2. an-2 aircraft operated
regular flights from Mary airport on regional routes. In addition to transportation, the flight
crew of the Mary separate United air squadron performed a large amount of work on the
use of aviation in the national economy.
In 1978, two artificial runways were built. In the same year, the building of the passenger
terminal was reconstructed, which allowed for regular flights by an-24 aircraft.
With the Independence of Turkmenistan, a new era of development of civil
aviation began. New comfortable Boeing aircraft were purchased. New
routes for flights of national aviation aircraft have been opened.
Becoming a mass mode of transport, the civil air fleet provides high
growth rates of transportation.
